Photographic Policy

Occasionally we will take photographs of children either at the Studio or when they are involved in organised activities away from the Studio. Photographs are only taken with the prior knowledge and consent of the parents/carers. We may use the pictures in Studio publications, such as leaflets, and on our website and Facebook page. We may also make video or web cam recordings for use by the Studio. To comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulations 2018, we need your permission to photograph or make any recordings of your child. All photographs are used in an appropriate context.
Consent forms:
A consent form will be needed from all students. Any photographer who is provided by the school will be CRB checked and only take pictures of those who parents/carers have given consent to do so. The dance teacher will be present at all times whilst the photographer is in attendance. Any photographs taken may be used as promotional material for Julia’s Dance Studio. These photos will not include your child’s name and will not be passed on to a third party, except when the photographer sells his images to dance students independently. Any pictures may be kept on our database for future advertising and promotional purposes. Images or videos stored on Julia’s Dance Studio devices will be passworded and locked away. Only pictures which have the full consent of the participants and/or parents/carers will be kept for these purposes.
Videoing as a training aid:
Videoing students in class may be used by the teachers as a legitimate coaching aid. Dancers and their parents/carers should be aware that this is part of the coaching programme and care will be taken in the storage of such films. These videos will be deleted when they are no longer necessary. If any other kind of photographic material or video of your child is required e.g. DVD of a performance or for advertisement material then parental permission will be requested. Students/parents/carers are not allowed to record or take photos during classes or performances. However, under the teacher’s supervision and where they deem it to be a genuine learning tool, teachers may film students performing a dance using the student’s own mobile phone, providing the student does not upload this onto social media.
Watching days:
Filming and photography is not permitted due to both safeguarding and copyright issues, however at the end of the class the teacher may invite parents/carers to record a dance or photograph their own child if they wish. This will be down to the teacher’s discretion and parents/carers must not upload any recordings onto social media sights. If parents/carers do not wish their child to be photographed or filmed then this must be made clear to the teacher prior to the start of the lesson.
Programmes:
Parents/carers must consent to their child’s photo possibly being used in programmes of our shows and their name being printed in the cast list.
Shows:
A strict “no photography” policy will be in place at all Julia’s Dance Studio shows and events in backstage areas and dressing rooms. The only exception to this is when there is more than one chaperone in the room, using an official Julia’s Dance Studio device and with all students in the room fully dressed in costume.
